Now that we are all maybe spending a little more time on social media than before, today I would like to share my best Instagram story tips and tricks with you.

Instagram Story GIFs
GIFs are animated images or lettering that you can select in the Instagram app and insert into your story. You’ve probably used GIFs before since they are a popular design tool for stories of all kinds.
The hard part is just finding the right GIFs. They are often hidden under search terms that you would never suspect. Because we’re actually looking for „Monday“ when we’re looking for a GIF for Monday, aren’t we?
To find beautiful GIFs, I recommend the following keywords:
- prosadecora
- esmcreative
- minimal
- ohlalalita
- lizmosley
- vipapier
- hanmade
- wlenschnitt
- hearts white
- mollywestcott
- gladdest
- green dot
- polaroid
- candyns
- malenaflores
- tape
- wildflowerdolly
- megantje
- maddie
- the uncommon place
- illustralle
- lidiaontheroad
Custom fonts
I often want to give my Instagram stories a different touch, because the standard fonts are used more regularly.
For this I use the App Over, which you can also download free of charge from the App Store. Under creating fonts you can enter your text, change the font and size as well as the color. Of course, you can still move the size later in the stories.
I use the free version in this app, but of course there are a few more fonts to choose from in the pro version. However, if you’re just looking for an alternative for some fonts, the free version is perfect.
To be able to use the lettering for stories, select the transparent background and export your lettering as a png file. This will then appear on your phone as a white photo, which you must copy and paste.
Instructions: Click on „Copy“, open the Instagram app and click on „Paste“.
Create and cut videos
You can easily create short videos for Instagram stories or IGTVs with the InShot app. Here, however, I would recommend the Pro version, otherwise you will have a watermark or advertisement in your video. With the purchased version you can also export the highest possible resolution.
You can already find an alternative using the iMovie app, which is available on Apple devices (iPhones & MacBooks). This is a little harder to use, but intuitively easy after a few tries.
For larger videos, such as YouTube videos, I would recommend Premiere Pro. This is an Adobe product that offers several design options.
Time Lapse & Hyperlapse
The function is already integrated in many mobile phone cameras, but the Hyperlapse app is a little better in my opinion, since you can manually adjust the speed of the video sequences here. So you can play some sections faster or slower and have a creative way to spice up Instagram stories.
Create photo collages
I have been using the Unfold app for Instagram Stories for a long time, which already offers beautiful story designs for free. For some packages, however, you need the pro version or you can buy it for around €2-3.
