What do you dream of when you think of a perfect vacation in the Dolomites? Personally, I dream of the vastness of the landscape, towering mountains, strenuous hikes and relaxing afternoons in the spa. For me, a hotel is just as much a part of a vacation as planned activities or sights nearby. That’s because a hotel can really make a trip a success or it can ruin it completely. Spoiler alert: Alpenheim Charming Hotel & Spa will definitely ensure that your trip to the Dolomites will be the best you’ve ever had!
For me, there’s nothing better than a vacation in the mountains. Admittedly, there’s plenty what’s missing if you’re living in a city: fresh air, relaxation and a postcard-worthy view wherever you look. However, you can find all this and much more in South Tyrol.
South Tyrol is located in northern Italy and is a popular destination for couples, families or solo travelers. Because South Tyrol is safe, varied and a holiday in this beautiful area can be perfectly tailored to everyone. Are you looking for a perfect place to experience some adventures, climb mountains and be rewarded with breathtaking views? Or are you looking for a relaxed vacation with the family, easy walks and just want to enjoy the fresh air? Well, or maybe you’re dreaming of a romantic weekend in small, snow-covered villages? Whatever you’re looking for, South Tyrol is the answer, I promise.
Alpenheim Charming Hotel & Spa | Review
As already mentioned in the beginning, a hotel can either make your stay in South Tyrol even better or completely ruin your holiday. And that’s why today we’re talking about one of the hotels that will definitely turn your trip into a dream vacation, because Alpenheim Charming Hotel & Spa has everything you could ask for. It starts with incredibly delicious breakfast and dinner, modern designed rooms, a relaxing wellness area, free bicycles for your vacation, hiking backpacks that are free to use, a beautiful view from the infinity pool and above all nice, helpful and sincere hosts.
Things to do near Alpenheim
Please take this as a friendly reminder that you cannot see South Tyrol within a week, not even two weeks or a whole months. Every time we come back to South Tyrol we discover places we didn’t know before and that’s perfectly fine! Wouldn’t it be boring if it were different?
- Seceda cable car, 2km
- Alpe di Siusi, 10km
- Passo Gardena, 17km
- Alta Badia, 26km
- Val di Funes, 32km
- Bozen, 36km
- Passo delle Erbe, 50km
- Lago di Carezza, 50km
But actually you don’t have to go far when visiting the Alpenheim, because the Alpe di Siusi is right in front of you, Seceda is not far away either and there is a lot to discover!
Besides these typical touristy places that you absolutely have to visit if you’re in South Tyrol, Alpenheim offers guided hikes as well! Such hikes are perfect if you’re unsure about certain routes or simply feel safer when hiking with a group. We really like the idea behind it and would join in immediately!
Best time to stay at Alpenheim Charming Hotel & Spa
Most destinations ins Europe tend to have their high season either in summer or in winter, but you can’t go wrong with visiting South Tyrol. It’s beautiful year-round and, to me, it’s one of the most beautiful destinations that Europe has to offer. Although the weather wasn’t perfect during our visit at Alpenheim and we didn’t get to explore all the places on our list, we had some very relaxing days in their spa area and enjoyed their delicious food. To be honest, there’s nothing like a relaxing morning at the spa while listening to the rain. Oh, and not to forget: we even got to swim while it was snowing! That’s so cool, isn’t it?
To sum this up: Every season is equally beautiful. However, summer might be a little better if you want to get up early to shoot sunrise whilst winter is better if you prefer skiing or snowboarding.
Transfer to Alpenheim
I include this section in every blog post about South Tyrol and will never get tired to tell you: You absolutely can visit South Tyrol by using public transportation but it’ll be way more convenient if you travel by car.
However, the nearest international airport in Italy is in Venice. Alternatively you could also fly into Munich, Salzburg or Zurich. Unfortunately, there is no way to fly directly to South Tyrol.
Tip: If you can, try to travel by car. Otherwise, I’d highly recommend to spend a weekend in Venice and travel to South Tyrol by train. For example, the Alpenheim Hotel offers free bicycles. So you are still flexible if you want to explore the area.
Check-In at Alpenheim Charming Hotel & Spa
Check-in at Alpenheim is scheduled from 3pm and we were once again more than on time. That didn’t matter, however, as our room was already waiting for our arrival. I found it particularly nice that we were welcomed very friendly and nicely at check-in and the lady at the reception spoke briefly with the guests. This made us feel so much more welcome!
- Check-in: 3pm
- Check-out: 11am
Design – Alpenheim Charming Hotel & Spa impresses with a beautiful combination of old and new elements
If you’re following me for a longer time, you recognized my love for the combination of old and new elements that go perfectly together. At Alpenheim there are a few older elements like the bar and some common areas but they also have brand-new modern rooms which fit perfectly into the overall picture.
I particularly liked the modern spa area. There is a round-shaped infinity pool inside the hotel that leads into an outdoor infinity pool with the most beautiful views over Ortisei.
Rooms at Alpenheim Charming Hotel & Spa
There is something for everyone when it comes to the rooms at Alpenheim hotel. You are really spoiled for choice, because one room looks nicer than the previous one! You can choose between classic and more modern rooms that are marked with a new on the website.
During our stay we had the pleasure to stay at one of their new junior panorama suites that are designed in beautiful soft tones with many wooden elements. This also fits perfectly into the entire design of the hotel and conveys a special feel-good factor.
Spa & Wellness
Can you think of anything better than a sauna visit after a day spent hiking or skiing? Me neither. Luckily, Alpenheim has a generously devised sauna area that features two saunas and a steam bath. They also have a aroma shower which I absolutely loved! You will be surprised when fresh mint aroma pours out of your shower.
After the sauna you can enjoy some strokes in their modern designed swimming pool. As previously mentioned, you can enjoy the beautiful views of the South Tyrolean mountains when swimming outside. Stress really doesn’t stand a chance here!
Imagine swimming here when it rains or snows. Just amazing, right?
Food & Beverages
You are spoiled for choice between „only“ breakfast or half board. We’d highly recommend to choose half board to everyone, because you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy their delicious cuisine every morning and in the evening.
The chef himself always tries to please everyone and specializes in down-to-earth South Tyrolean cuisine combined with dishes such as frogs‘ legs or bison flank steak. When a starter didn’t appeal to me after all, I was immediately offered alternatives. That is definitely not a matter of course and shows how the hosts value their guests well-being.
Breakfast
Most of the breakfast is buffet style, but you can also order individual dishes, such as scrambled eggs. The large selection of fresh fruit, vegetables, diary products and pastries is absolutely great. Alpenheim offers, for example, croissants with or without filling, cake, muffins, or donuts. But don’t worry that you won’t have enough choice if you prefer a hearty breakfast: Alpenheim always has fresh bread and bread rolls!
Dinner
In short: the dinner was fantastic! Every day there was a new menu that you could look forward to the whole day, because the chef definitely understands his work. That is why finest cuisine is served at the Alpenheim, perfectly coordinated and always delicious!
Dinner always started with a salad buffet, a selection of cheese and matching fruits and bread. Here you could let off steam and try a different cheese every day. Of course there is also the option to eat the cheese instead of the dessert. But you shouldn’t miss dessert! My absolute highlight was the bison flank steak and the tiramisu for dessert. It’s been a dream.
For dinner you have the choice of different wines or drinks. We chose Aperol every evening during our stay, as it always tastes better in Italy.
Service at Alpenheim
The service at Alpenheim Charming Hotel & Spa was just like the rest: You name it, it’s been perfect. Starting with the fact that we were welcomed in such a nice way to the courteous service staff and lots of friendly people! It is always said so nicely that you visit a place as a stranger and leave as a friend. That is definitely the case here, because the owner himself regularly takes time for his guests.
Value for Money
The price-performance ratio is just right and actually exceeded any of my expectations. Especially with the regular offers of the hotel everyone should find something. How about 4 nights for 3 or 8 nights for 6 in winter? No matter what you choose here, the hotel is worth every penny.
Summary | Alpenheim Charming Hotel & Spa
In summary, we have only one complaint about the Alpenheim hotel: You have to go back home at some point. I’d highly recommend this hotel to everyone who wants to explore South Tyrol or just enjoy some lazy days in their spa area.
