We are probably all in the same boat right now and this boat is called: Quarantine. Blocked country borders, curfews, closed restaurants and shops, life asleep. Meanwhile, e-mails from airlines flutter into the inbox that the next flight has also been canceled and in general: Who really wants to leave his country right now?
It is currently important to reflect on your health, to stay at home #stayhome and to avoid social contacts as much as possible. Nevertheless, a little wanderlust cannot be avoided here and there.
That’s why this post contains 7 tips against acute wanderlust to help you fix it as long as we’re stuck here.
Tips Against Acute Wanderlust
Do you know this tingling sensation in your stomach when you think of a particular country that you would like to travel to? That little, stinging pain when you dream of sun, beach, and sea? The excitement that arises in you because there are so many great places to discover out there?
These are the signs of acute wanderlust! You want to pack your things right away, book a plane ticket and go. But as soon as you get to the airline’s webpage, you will get your much-needed reminder: „Travel warning due to Covid-19„.
Well, as modest as our current situation may be, there are people in the world who are fighting for their lives. Not only now, I know that. But every day. Nevertheless, this crisis makes it a little bit more tangible.
So what can you do if you’re still wanderlusting?
1. Design photo books
Surely you have collected countless photos of your last trips, haven’t you? Often we may not have the time to actually print them out, stick them in photo albums and admire them.
During the design process of your photo books, you can review old impressions again – and again.
You can either put your photo book together online; or simply buy both separately and stick those photos in yourself. Of course, the latter makes the photo book even more personal!
2. Bring the world home
Maybe you are someone who brings a souvenir from every vacation anyway?
If not, this is not bad at all! Use different scents or maybe furnish your rooms with small details according to the respective countries or destinations.
3. Culinary Delights
Based on the previous point, you can simply resort to something simpler instead of directly furnishing your entire apartment: food!
Do you prepare different meals, such as American pancakes, Thai curry and German apple pie?
4. Read about traveling
I think it’s the same for you: I love stories about traveling!
I love it when someone reports on their experiences and much more I love it when I can dream away – from distant countries and foreign cultures.
5. Watch travel films
Similar to the previous point, you can of course skip reading and watch a film about traveling directly!
It is not always about the film itself, but simply about the wonderful setting that takes part. I recommend „Exit Marrakech“ or „Das Traumhotel“.
6. Spoil yourself
Usually, you could go to a spa, have a nice day, and wanderlust would be blown away. But now? How about a bath with bath crystals that smell oriental? Or a face mask that is good for you?
7. Planning a new trip
Unfortunately, of course, we do not currently know when the situation will be normal again. I even guess that we can completely break big trips this year.
Nevertheless, you can of course take your time and plan a new trip – maybe without a date, but roughly find the most beautiful sights and search for hotels.
How do you deal with your wanderlust?
