As some of you may already know, we spent the past two weeks road tripping through Germany, Austria, and Italy. We loved our experiences during our travels, but we particularly liked one: Our stay at Hotel Melanie in the Salzburg region. It’s the perfect match if you’re looking for a family runned hotel which places great value on service, friendliness and well-being of the guests. Hotel Melanie actually is one 20 minutes from Salzburg and Berchtesgaden, making it the perfect place to base yourself when exploring the surrounding area.
Beautiful Hotel Melanie nearby Salzburg
At the beginning of June, we spontaneously decided to take a little road trip through Germany. Eventually, we extended our trip and explored Austria and Italy as well. Since Hotel Melanie is perfect to base yourself when exploring the Salzburger Land and even if you want to do a day trip to the Königssee in Berchtesgaden, we decided to stay there.
Unfortunately, we needed to make some last minute changes and asked Melanie, the owner of the hotel, if it was possible to reschedule. She was so friendly and helpful and changed our dates immediately. This is definitely not a matter of course, but we think it’s absolutely great that the family appreciates the well-being of the guests.
Transfer to Hotel Melanie
Since we were traveling by car, it was absolutely no problem to reach Hotel Melanie. However, if you are arriving by plane, you should know that the closest airport is Salzburg airport, just a 10 minute ride from the hotel. If you want to travel by train or bus, you have to know that there is only one bus connection from the airport.
Check-in is scheduled from 2pm. Check-out is at 11am. On arrival at Hotel Melanie we were greeted in the lobby and although we arrived on site prior to 2pm, our room was already done and we were welcomed with hot coffee.
We absolutely loved the welcome sign, a small bottle of sparkling wine and the pralines we received as a welcome gift since this gave everything a more personal touch. Sometimes, the small things are those one appreciates the most. And this gesture – for sure – made our stay even more special.
From the out- and inside, one word describes it best: modern. Hotel Melanie is a very modern designed hotel and while completely subjective, we like the overall design very much.
So, when staying at Hotel Melanie you can expect a very modern building and rooms equipped with tablets from which you can pre-order your breakfast, check which restaurants are the best or simply order yourself another pillow to sleep on.
At Hotel Melanie you can choose between single rooms, double rooms, or family rooms. All rooms are kept in the same style and approximately between 25 sq.m. and 28 sq.m. We stayed at one of their double rooms and enjoyed it to the fullest.
Particularly, we liked the very bright room with spacious bathroom and shower, the possibility to use the balcony, and the insect screen in front of our door to sleep with it open.
Hotel Melanie offers a total of five common areas: the lobby, breakfast room, garden, lake, and spa & wellness area.
During our stay in Wals-Sizenheim, we used the common areas during the day and in the evening and we must say that we never experienced such calm and respectful areas. Every guest was super friendly and tried hard not to disturb anyone. Personally, we think that this is a huge plus and made our stay even better.
When staying at Hotel Melanie, you can expect snacks in the spa & wellness area and the possibility to order drinks whilst enjoying the spa.
Location is key, you know, and Hotel Melanie is just perfect. As I already said, it’s only 20 minutes from Salzburg and Berchtesgaden which makes it perfect to explore the surrounding area. During our time in Wals-Siezenheim, we explored Salzburg and made sure to enjoy these mountain views during sunrise.
In September 2017, the Hotel Melanie was awarded the Austrian environmental label „Seal of Quality for Environment and Quality„. There are many reasons for this award. First, LED lamps throughout the entire building reduce energy and electricity consumption. Second, they use water-saving taps in all bathrooms and 50% of the hot water is processed with the energy from the hotel’s own solar system. Moreover, they place special emphasis on regionality and offer homemade jams and syrups as well as baked goods for breakfast.
Spa & Wellness
I’m not joking when I tell you that Hotel Melanie could also be considered a normal spa, because for a hotel spa it is very spacious. You can enjoy a steam bath, a 60° herbal sauna or a 90° finnish sauna as well as a infrared cabin. Moreover, they offer crushed ice, snacks like apples and nuts, cold drinks and hot tea for free.
After enjoying the hot sauna, you can relax on a warm seating or a cold waterbed. Whatever you enjoy most.
Besides this, the hotel has a big indoor pool which is perfect for swimming during bad weather and a private lawn at a nearby lake that’s perfect for swimming during good weather.
On top of all this, you can also tan in the hotel’s own garden equipped with several deck chairs.
Food & Beverages
Hotel Melanie is a bed and breakfast hotel, but you can get recommendations from Melanie and the hotel team or simply look up delivery services or nearby restaurants in their tourist guide. When ordering food, they’ll deliver it straight to your hotel room.
The hotel breakfast is a buffet, but can also be ordered directly to your room during the current pandemic. Simply fill out an order form on the tablet the evening before and have it delivered to your room at the desired time. No matter if 7am or 11am, your breakfast is right on time. The best thing about it? The selection is just as huge as at the buffet: homemade jams, fruit, vegetables, muesli or cornflakes, milk and yoghurt, juices, waffles, baked goods and so much more. They’ll even arrange a vegan, lactose-free or gluten-free breakfast for you if necessary.
Generally speaking, the service was just perfect. It feels like you’re with friends and whenever you see someone from the team, they’ll always ask if you need something or just talk to you. We absolutely loved this about our stay, because it gave everything a very personal touch and we felt absolutely at home due to this.
Whenever we had a question it was answered immediately and the staff puts a lot of effort into making sure that the guest feels comfortable at all times. There is also a huge plus point that all corners of the hotel were cleaned several times a day and that it was really ensured that guests and staff were protected in the best possible way.
Value for Money
The hotel is in the medium price range and base rooms tend to go for €175 (with breakfast, in high season) per night whereby the largest room is around €295 per night. Given the overall resume of the hotel, it’s absolutely worth it and has a great price-performance ratio.
Hotel Melanie – Summary
To us, the most important things when staying at a hotel are: location, cleanliness, feeling comfortable and being able to enjoy our stay. This hotel absolutely scored in all points. That’s why we’d highly recommend Hotel Melanie and we’ll definitely come back to Wals-Siezenheim nearby Salzburg.
